How long have you worked for The Jasmine Pearl?
Since September 2015
What do you do there? What does a typical day look like for you?
I come in and make a cup of black tea of some sort, look to see if any of the displays need visual merchandising love, and check with my manager to see if there are any special projects that need completed. I may photograph teas for the website and catalog and take pictures for our Instagram. I also spend a lot of time helping customers find merchandise and making tea for them.
What attracted you to the world of tea? Tell us about the moment tea became special to you?
I grew up in Alabama, where the first thing a lot of people do in the morning is to make a pitcher of sweet tea to keep in the fridge for their family to sip on all day. Tea is a large part of the culture. It became special to me in high school when I found an herbal tea that I was obsessed with. It's become a way to unwind at night since then.
What are your top 5 favorite teas at The Jasmine Pearl?
If you were a tea, what would you be and why?
I'm a Puerh, because I'm getting more refined and sophisticated as I get older! I also have better taste than I used to.
Tell a fun fact about yourself. What are your hobbies outside of work?
I'm a stand-up comedian. I'm also a savage second hand shopper and thrifter.
Tell us about a tea mishap or your proudest moment with tea.
Ummm well not here at the Jasmine Pearl but at a restaurant where I worked in Gulf Shores, AL, I tripped and spilled an entire pitcher of tea on this kid who was probably ten. He was wearing swim trunks and had a towel with him so he didn't make a big deal out of it. Thank you awesome kid!
Where is your dream location to have a cup of tea and who would you like to share it with?
How about in a thermal lake in Iceland with Bjork? I feel like that would be an interesting cup of tea to say the least.
What is your favorite way to brew tea? What teaware do you use at home?
I like brewing it by the cup with an infuser. I also have a vintage Japanese teapot that is hand-painted and some lovely hand thrown cups that are white on the outside and cerulean blue on the inside.
