A commonly asked question here at the shop is “What tea is your favorite?” But that question can be hard to answer as it seems to change with the weather, my mood, or even what someone ate for breakfast. In this new series of blog posts we have asked our staff here at the Jasmine Pearl that question. Over the next few months we’ll post their answers here. Who knows, maybe you’ll find a new tea to try!
This month we asked Caroline what her pick is. Caroline works in our retail department serving up drinks, tea knowledge and is our resident photographer extraordinaire! Caroline’s pick of the month is Earl Grey Lavender!
Why do you like it?
C: I'm a big lavender person, plus ever since I was young purple has been my favorite color. The lavender flavor is smooth and calming and brings a whole other depth to the tea.
How do you brew it?
C: I use extra leaf, 1 Tbs for 3 1/2 minutes. I'll top it off with almond milk or will sometimes have it as a latte.
Does it remind you of anything?
C: It reminds me of baked goods.
How does this tea make you feel?
C: Calm, energized, & it's good for me to keep balanced throughout my day. I almost like the smell better, the citrus is uplifting while the lavender is calming.
Does this tea help you do something?
C: It's part of my daily routine, it's the first thing I do when I get to work and once I have had that first cup I am ready to get down to business.
Do you pair food with this tea?
C: The peanut butter chocolate pie from Pie Spot is a great pairing. The citrus tames the sugar.
Our Earl Grey Lavender starts out as a traditional Earl Grey- we use smooth Chinese Keemun (Qimen), from the Anhui Province in east-central China, and Ceylon, from the major tea-producing island of Sri Lanka and then blend it with the citrusy oil of Bergamot. This base is then blended with aromatic lavender blossoms. A floral twist on a timeless classic. Delicious both hot or iced.
